If you're like many people today, you use rideshare apps on a regular basis. Rideshare programs, such as Uber, are a great way to get where you need to go, without using your own car. Not only is ridesharing economical, but it's also great for the environment since there are fewer cars on the road. However, using a rideshare service does come with its own risks, such as automobile accidents. If you're involved in a car accident while in a rideshare vehicle, you might think that you're not entitled to compensation. Luckily, that's not the case. However, you do need to take steps to protect yourself, and your rights to compensation. If you've been in an accident involving a rideshare driver, here are three mistakes you need to avoid at all costs. 

Making Statement to Rideshare Driver

If you've been involved in a car accident while you were a passenger in a rideshare vehicle, you might be tempted to discuss the issue with the rideshare driver. However, that's not something that you should do. In fact, you should avoid discussing the accident with anyone who's been involved in the accident, including the rideshare driver. Any statements that you make to the driver could put your compensation at risk, especially if you tell the driver that you don't think the accident was their fault. To protect your rights, only discuss the accident with first responders, such as the police or paramedics. 

Refusing to Get Medical Assistance 

If you've been injured in a car accident, and you were the passenger in a rideshare vehicle, you might think that you should avoid seeking medical assistance, especially if the injuries appear to be minor. Unfortunately, that's the biggest mistake you can make. First, you might have injuries that you're unaware of. Second, you're limiting your ability to document the injuries you've sustained in the accident. Finally, you're limiting your ability to receive care and compensation for those injuries. Protect your health, and your rights, by seeking medical attention right away. 

Filling Out Your Own Documents

If you've been involved in a car accident while being a passenger in a rideshare vehicle, there will be paperwork to fill out. Some of the paperwork might seem like it's simple enough to fill out on your own. However, filling out your own paperwork could be a big mistake. Instead of filling out the paperwork on your own, hire a rideshare attorney. They'll go over the paperwork with you to make sure that you're not jeopardizing your right to compensation. They'll also handle all of the insurance negotiations for you.
