In 2015, the most popular password used by people was "123456," with the second most popular password being "password." With passwords like these you are opening the door and inviting a cyber criminal to walk on in. They have special equipment they use to try to determine what the password(s) are, and this is likely one of the first things they will try.

Instead of this choose a password that has a series of lowercase letters, uppercase letters, symbols and numbers. For example, a good password would be something like: %TeS*4a#l8A. As you can see, that password would be very difficult for anyone to guess. Do not use the same password for all of your accounts.

You also need to change your passwords often, such as every week or every three months.

Use a Firewall

If your network does not have a firewall, it is like leaving a door open to your home and letting anyone walk through it. You should always keep this antivirus software up to date, as new viruses and malware are created every day. Most antivirus software packages run automatic updates at a time you set, such as during hours when you are not using your network. There are many different companies that make antivirus software.
